Friends of the Botanical Gardens are invited to join this special 40th Anniversary Celebration Evening at Sheffield General Cemetery*. Places are limited and tickets are on sale via the link below; tickets (£10) include a glass of wine or a soft drink. We hope to make a recording of the talk available for Friends who are unable to attend.

Sheffield landscape designer Ollie Pike was asked by the Bible Society to build a show garden for them at the Tatton Flower Show in 2023. Ollie designed and built the Psalm 27 Garden which won a silver medal in the RHS Young Designer of the Year award category. Following the show, the garden was relocated to Sheffield and it is now flourishing in the grounds of Sheffield General Cemetery.

Starting at 6.30pm at the General Cemetery*, Friends attending the evening will be given a tour and an overview of the planting of the Psalm 27 garden and the logistics of relocating it to Sheffield, followed by a talk covering Ollie’s inspiration for and implementation of the garden, plus his experiences when designing a show garden and working on other landscape projects at home and abroad.

Ollie studied for his BA and MLA in Landscape Architecture at the University of Sheffield and lived and worked in Sheffield until last year when he relocated his home and practice to West Yorkshire. After qualifying he spent two years working with Harris Bugg Studio (designers of the Chelsea garden which is relocating to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield - talk planned for 2025) and has led a number of projects in the UK and Europe, including Geneva and Berlin.

He has been named as one of Garden Illustrated magazine’s ‘22 Ones to Watch in 2024´ and has just created a second show garden at Tatton Park this summer. His ‘This Garden Isn't Finished Without You’ sponsored by The Methodist Church won Gold, Best in Show and the RHS Environmental Innovation Award. Quite an achievement - we look forward to hearing all about it…….
