Colin Hickman ‘Agapanthus and Nerines: a practical demonstration’ Live Lecture

This talk and all our lectures are FREE for Friends of the Botanical Gardens to attend. Members of the public are also welcome to join us on payment of £5 at the door on the day. Live talks are held in the Education Centre in the grounds of the Botanical Gardens - easily accessed via the Thompson Road Entrance.

In this session, Colin Hickman of Hoyland Plant Centre, will give a practical demonstration covering the cultivation and propagation of Agapanthus and Nerines both in pots and in the ground.

Colin grew up on his family plant nursery, a very successful family business involving his parents and sister. He has studied Horticulture and Arboriculture and has worked extensively in both the UK and abroad. Over the last decade he has been working full time running Hoyland Plant Centre where growing and exhibiting rare and unusual South African plants and bulbs.

The plant nursery is devoted to the cultivation and propagation of Agapanthus, Tulbaghia, Clivia, Nerine and Amarine which are all part of the Amaryllidaceae family. It also holds the UK National Collections of Agapanthus, Clivia and Tulbaghia and the family are passionate about the preservation of these beautiful plants.
