James Hitchmough shares details of his progress in establishing his new garden in rural Somerset, following his move from Sheffield in 2022.
Dean will share the story of revitalising the nursery including the gardens and nurseries that have inspired and influenced them along the way.
New FOBS members are invited to come along and find out a bit more about the Friends. We will have a short talk by Carolyn, our Chair, a photo review of recent events, tours of the gardens and home-made cakes and coffee. New Friends will receive a personal invite at the beginning of March.
Artist and garden designer Maureen Sawyer will illustrate the best see-through perennials, annuals, bulbs, grasses and subshrubs to enhance any border planting and turn your garden into a painting!
Head Gardener, Ruth Calder, will share the story of how the award winning Horatio’s Garden design transferred from the 2023 Chelsea Flower Show to become the charity’s eighth garden, located at the Spinal Injuries Centre at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital

Plant of the month
If you walk to the Bear Pit you cannot miss this stunning flowering rhododendron by the side of the path. At an eventual height and spread around 2m after 20 years, this dense shrub is covered in spectacular flowers with 8 or so in a cluster and trusses 4.5cm long.
For March we’ll be exploring the history of the Gardens. This tour is also part of the Festival of the Outdoors
